Muggles have been waiting for the years for this to happen, Diagon Alley officially welcomed its first guests this morning at Universal Studios in Orlando.

Guests started arriving early this morning at Universal Studios to be the first in line to experience Diagon Alley. The space in front of the London area filled quickly with guests being redirected to a stand-by line near the Fear Factor stage.

A small opening ceremony was held before the new land opened with a short presentation and fireworks.

The Grand Opening is “the end of a really great journey”, said Mark Woodbury, President of Universal Creative, “The people that have been out here the past few weeks are just dying to get in.”

While most shops and restaurants in Diagon Alley have been open for the past few days in technical rehearsal, the centerpiece of the new land, thrill ride “Harry Potter and the Escape from Gringotts”, has remained closed until today. The new ride, adorned with a giant fire-breathing dragon, has proven itself to be extremely popular with wait times exceeding 375 minutes by 11 a.m.
